ACM Carcano
azienda
Carcano Antonio S.p.a. certainly does not show its more than 100 years of life, except in its lengthy experience and the prestige it has acquired on the international market. Dynamics and vitality which result in a constant transformation are part of its genetic background.

Since 1895 when its founder Antonio Carcano decided to move his business (started in 1880) from Maslianico to Mandello del Lario on the banks of the river Meria, Carcano has constantly evolved, keeping one step ahead of changes dictated by time and tangibly and solidly confronting these changes. After an initial production activity involving flexible tubes in tin and lead alloy, Antonio Carcano realized the significant possibilities for using "foil" in the field of flexible packaging, mainly for sweets, and with his staff he developed original techniques and procedures which, combined with the particular skill of the personnel and family atmosphere in the workplace, made it possible for Carcano the become a leader in terms of quality and innovation in the colouring and printing field.
In the 1920's aluminium replaced tin in the flexible packaging industry, but Carcano was not unprepared. It modified and adapted
its technologies designing and building machines suited for the new processing, and once again the company quickly became a leader with this new metal as well. The technological, organisational and productive evolution continued and after a pause during World War II, during which Carcano confirmed its strong ties with its territories and its inhabitants by providing aid to those who most needed it and tangibly supporting the families of its employees who were sent to the front, it implemented the necessary expansion to include the business of lamination.
Thus the Delebio plant was opened in 1947, a few dozen
kilometers to the north of Mandello, at the beginning of the Valtellina area, dedicated to the aluminium foil rolling ; using self-produced hydroelectric energy thanks to a basin and power plant specifically built and still continuously modernized to produce more than 10 million Kwh per year.

sedi At Delebio, rolling mills and auxiliary systems have become increasingly larger, faster and more sophisticated; the converting lines at Mandello were enhanced with modern machines for printing, colouring and other processes. The organisation and structure of the company have undergone radical changes, but the spirit of Carcano remains unchanged. Friendliness in human relations, strong ties to the local territory and a team spirit characterize a production organization which counts great flexibility and fast answers and decisions among its strong points.
All this also thanks to its special nature as a production chain that starts from ingots to obtain converted foil, based on two production units located close to each other, jointly coordinated and closely connected through a continuous exchange of information and experiences. This goes against the trend of what other manufacturers have always implemented: breaking down the various phases into completely separate production units or even different companies.
The Delebio plant was the second plant in the world to install a rolling mill for thin foil in a finished width of over two metres , the first in the world to carry out the entire foil production cycle in these dimensions starting from slab casting. Just like Delebio has a leading position in the production of high quality foil not only in Italy, but also on a world scale, the same holds true for Mandello in the field of converted foil (printed, coloured, backed, embossed, etc.).
More than 500 employees (around 250 at Delebio and around 310 at Mandello, where the offices and company headquarters are situated next to the converting plant), 34,000 tonnes /year of aluminium foil produced, of which more than 10,000 entirely converted, and a turnover higher than 140 million euro are just some of the figures that identify Carcano today. A "provincial" enterprise launched towards the world: more than 55% of its production is exported and reaches the furthest corners of the globe.
