QUALITY
Based on its desire to maintain its leadership on the national and international market, Carcano has implemented a Quality Management System in compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 for its Mandello production unit.
Through this quality management system Carcano attempts to
  • achieve a quality not considered only as conformity of the product to the customer's specifications, but overall, including customer satisfaction, by enhancing the service, flexibility and prompt delivery aspects;
  • continuous improvement of all technical, organisational and managerial aspects which characterise its business.
A "Quality and Research" department has recently been expanded and restructured at the Mandello site. The managers of this area, who answer directly to General Management, take care of:
  • monitoring and implementing the company Quality System by collaborating with the various functions
  • performance of the necessary tests to check the conformity of raw materials, intermediate products and finished products to the specified standards
  • studying and setting up new production solutions
  • providing technical assistance to the sales networks by carrying out analyses, tests and examinations, to respond to problems raised by Customers
  • following the Regulatory Affairs area.
The area is broken down into various operating spaces equipped with instruments for performing tests and controls of the technical-functional characteristics of the products destined to the various industries.

Carcano has set up a Quality Management System for each of its production units, Delebio and Mandello, which meets the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard.
  • Certificates ISO 9001:2008 Mandello: IQNET - IGQ
  • Certificates ISO 14001:2004 Mandello: IQNET - IGQ

HACCP
Carcano's Mandello plant, as manufacturer of packaging for the food, confectionery, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, has obtained an extension of the ISO 9001:2000 certification applied to an internal sanitary self-control system. Such a system, developed in order to prevent and monitor all possible risks of product contamination, is based on the HACCP method and it has been implemented integrating it with the existing quality management system.

ENVIRONMET
Carcano has implemented a certified Environmental Management System according to the ISO 14.001:2004 standard.
The Mandello site has been ISO 14001 certified since 2005.
The purpose of the Environmental Management System is to minimise the possible direct and indirect environmental impacts on which Carcano can exercise control, in compliance with applicable current regulations and require-ments of this standard.
The system is based on the identification of the environmental aspects resulting from an initial environmental assessment.

The actual effectiveness of the EMS and its continuous improvement are measured through a series of records related to training, operating controls, monitoring and measurement activities and the results of internal and external audits.

The commitment of Carcano Antonio S.p.A.'s General Management towards the environment is expressed in the Company Policy which, with a view of integrated development, also includes the requirements of the other company management systems.
In particular, Carcano has set up the following principles for achieving the pre-set objectives and goals:
  • Respect and protect the surrounding environment
  • Sustainable development of the company through the best available technologies
  • Compliance with statutory laws and regulations.

This focus is aimed at
  • controlling and reducing emissions
  • enhancing energy cogeneration systems
  • the production of hydroelectric energy
  • the reduction in the production of waste and secondary and tertiary packaging.

From this standpoint Carcano has voluntarily promoted and become a founding member of the Italian Consortiums for the Management of CONAI packaging and recovery and recycling of CiAl aluminium packaging.

SAFETY
Safety management is one of the priorities expressed in Carcano's policy. The purpose of the Safety Management System is to eliminate or reduce the possible risks for workers in order to minimise the number of accidents and the possibility of occupational diseases.

The Safety Management System operates in synergy with the company's Management and the worker trade union representatives in order to fully understand the needs and proposals from all parties.
The priorities safety management activities are based on include:
  • risk assessment
  • activity and process monitoring
  • improvement action programming
  • continuous worker training
  • emergency prevention and management
